Wake Forest Holds Annual Black & Gold Game

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest officially kicked off the 2009-10 basketball season with its annual Black & Gold Game held Saturday afternoon in front of a packed crowd at Reynolds Gymnasium.
The Demon Deacons played three eight-minute quarters, mixing the teams up after each period.
Sophomores Al-Farouq Aminu and Tony Woods led the Demon Deacons on the day. Aminu, who has been named a Preseason All-American by multiple publications, scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds. He went 6-for-14 from the field, incuding 2-for-3 from three-point range, and also added two blocks.
Woods scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooint and pulled down five rebounds.
Seniors Chad McFarland and David Weave scored nine points apiece. McFarland went 4-for-6 from the floor.
Senior Ishmael Smith dished out a team-high five assists, while freshman C.J. Harris tallied four assists. Smith also scored seven points, and Harris had five boards.
Senior L.D. Williams chipped in six points, four rebounds and three steals, while sophomore Ty Walker finished with six points and three rebounds.
Sophomore Konner Tucker scored four points and pulled down four boards, freshman Ari Stewart had two points and two blocks and junior Gary Clark scored seven points.
In game one, Aminu and Woods led the Black squad to a 16-6 victory. Woods led all scorers with six points, and Aminu finished with five points and four rebounds.
Stewart blocked two shots and Harris pulled down three rebounds to lead the Gold team.
In game two, Aminu and Williams led the Gold squad to a 16-8 win. Williams went 3-for-4 to score six points and pull down three rebounds. Aminu had five points and three rebounds.
McFarland led the Black team with two points and two blocks in game two.
In game three, the two teams combined to shoot 54.5 percent but Gold was able to come out on top 19-11.
McFarland led the Gold squad with five points, while Aminu, Tucker and Weaver added four points apiece. Smith tallied two assists for Gold.
Clark led the Black team with seven points, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field. Harris dished out three assists for Black.
Wake Forest will play its lone exhibition game of the preseason on Thursday, Nov. 5, against IUP. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
