WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomore Marley Burns, freshmen Anna Nosenko and Dina Nosenko, and fifth-year senior Merry Placer were all named to the 2008 All-ACC Academic Women's Cross Country Team, while sophomore Greg Billington was selected to the 2008 All-ACC Academic Men's Cross Country Team.
On the women's team, Wake Forest led the conference with four representatives, followed by Boston College with three.
Burns, a sophomore who is planning on majoring in health and exercise science, is on the list for the second consecutive year. The Asheville, N.C., native and all-region honoree was a top-four runner for Wake Forest in all six meets in which she competed this past season. Burns finished second on the team and 23rd overall at the NCAA Southeast Regionals. She placed fourth on the team and fifth overall at the Wake Forest Relays, as well as third on the team and fourth overall at the North Carolina Challenge.
Anna Nosenko, the ACC Rookie of the Year whose major is undeclared, finished first or second for Wake Forest in all five meets raced. The Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, native placed second on the team and 16th overall at the ACC meet. A. Nosenko also finished first on the team and 21st overall at the NCAA Southeast Regionals. Dina Nosenko, a freshman with an undeclared major, finished the season with five consecutive top-four finishes for Wake Forest. Twin sister of Anna Nosenko and also a native of Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, D. Nosenko's top finish was second on the team and 10th overall at the Virginia Tech Invitational. She also finished third on the team at three meets: the Bill Dellinger Invitational, the ACC Championships and the NCAA Southeast Regionals
A native of Flagstaff, Ariz., Placer also is on the list for the second time. She is a fifth-year senior in eligibility and a graduate student in liberal studies at Wake Forest. During the 2008 season, Placer scored for the Deacons in all six meets competed. She placed first on the team and second overall at the North Carolina Challenge and finished second on the team and second overall at the Wake Forest Relays.
Billington, a sophomore with an undeclared major, is the third Deacon to repeat this honor for the second consecutive year. He finished first for Wake Forest in all five of his races this past season. Additionally, Billington won his first career individual title at the Men's White Division 8K Brooks Paul Short Run at Lehigh University's Goodman campus that featured a field of 270 runners on Oct. 3. He finished in the top-15 overall in three regular-season meets. At the ACC Championships and NCAA Southeast Regionals, he paced the Deacons and finished 38th and 52nd overall, respectively.
