Wake Forest Open Set To Start On Friday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Over 1,200 athletes from 40 different schools and organizations will descend up Kentner Stadium this weekend for the first meet of the 2009 outdoor season, the Wake Forest Open.
Top-athletes from up and down the east coast will be competing this weekend with along with members of a total of nine schools from North Carolina - Appalachian State, Campbell, Duke, East Carolina, High Point, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, UNC Greensboro and Wake Forest.
There are a number of All-Americans, NCAA Qualifiers and NCAA Champions from DI, DII, DIII and NAIA schools competing this weekend. One of those athletes is Judy Bataille from Heidelberg, who comes into the meet fresh off winning her second 60-meter national title at the DIII NCAA Championships last weekend. She will compete in the 100-meter dash.
Wake Forest junior Brent LaRue is also fresh off earning All-America honors in the heptathlon last weekend at the NCAA DI Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas. He will be running in the 110-meter hurdles as well as competing in the throws.
Internationally, Oludamola Osayomi, who competed for Nigeria in the last two Olympics, will compete in both the women's 100- and 200-meter races.
All-in-all, there is a great mix of athletes set to compete this weekend which will provide a great atmosphere for the opening outdoor meet of the season.
The action will get underway bright and early Friday morning with the women's hammer throw at 9:30 a.m. The first running event will start at 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon and conclude with the Annie Bersagel 10,000-meter run at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the women's javelin will kick things off at 9:30 a.m. while the first running event is slated to start at Noon. The final event will be the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay and that is scheduled for 5:40 p.m.
