Wake Forest senior co-captains Alex Tchangoue and Corinne Groves led the Demon Deacons in scoring and rebounding. Tchangoue put up 15 points and seven caroms while Groves had 23 points and nine rebounds.
Georgetown's (19-13) Monica McNutt also netted the game-high scoring mark of 23 and Jaleesa Butler led the field with 10 rebounds.
Georgetown will move on to the third round of the WNIT, hosting Richmond on Wednesday, March 25.
Wake Forest held its largest lead at the 9:11 mark in the first half, pulling ahead by nine points. Georgetown chased the Deacons through the final minutes the knotted the score at 34-all by halftime.
Trouble for the Deacons started in the second half. In the first half it seemed like the Deacons couldn't miss, shooting 42 percent from the floor. When the final 20 minutes began and the Deacons' shooting turned ice cold. The team was 1-for-5 to start the half and Georgetown went on a 12-3 run.
"The thing that turned the game was the first three minutes of the second half," Wake Forest head coach Mike Petersen said.
"Georgetown had 34 at halftime and they scored 12 in the first three minutes of the second half. I thought our intensity had been very good the whole first half, but for some reason the first three minutes our energy level defensively just wasn't where it needed to be and they exploited it."
With ten minutes to play the Hoyas held an 11 point lead. At the 4:20 mark Tchangoue netted a 3-pointer to cut the lead to seven, but Georgetown sharpshooter Monica McNutt countered with a 3 and the Deacons were unable to shift the momentum. McNutt was 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.
"The biggest disappointment is that I'm not going to get to coach Corinne Groves and Alex Tchangoue again," Mike Petersen said.
"They are two of my favorite players that I've ever coached. That's that hardest part of this, knowing that I'm not going to get to go practice ever again without Alex and Corinne out there, two kids that I love to death and have been great competitors and foundational people in this program.
That's the thing about working in this sport. Only two teams in the whole country get to end the season with a win."
