Deacs Travel to Davidson, Host Winthrop in Midweek Games

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest baseball team returns to the diamond this week with two midweek games against non-conference opponents. Wake opens the week with a 6 p.m. game at Davidson, before returning home to face Winthrop at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Wednesday's contest will be broadcast online at WakeForestSports.com.
The Demon Deacons enter the week with a 10-10 overall record. Wake Forest has enjoyed success against non-conference opponents, posting a 9-2 record against non-ACC foes this season.
Wake Forest is led by senior second baseman Dustin Hood, who leads the team with a .354 batting average. Hood has a team-best .474 on-base percentage and has driven in 10 runs on the season. Weldon Woodall is hitting .342 on the year with three homers and 16 RBIs. Freshman Carlos Lopez has hit a team-high eight home runs and leads the team with 18 RBIs.
The Deacs are coming off a weekend series against NC State. Wake Forest won the series opener for the team's first ACC win of the season, but dropped the last two games of the series.
Davidson enters Tuesday's game with a 9-9 overall record and a 4-3 mark in Southern Conference play. The Wildcats dropped two of three games at Wofford in a conference series last weekend. Davidson did win the finale of the series 16-8 on Sunday.
Zach Kayne leads the team in batting average, hitting at a .387 clip on the season with five home runs and 18 RBIs. Chase FitzPatrick has a team-high seven home runs with 19 RBIs, while Danny Weiss has also driven in 17 runs on the season. In the bullpen, Matt Webb leads the team with two saves and has a 1-0 record with a 1.35 ERA in eight appearances. As a team, Davidson is hitting .282, while the pitching staff has a combined ERA of 5.58.
Winthrop is 14-7 on the season and leads the Big South Conference with a 5-1 record. Winthrop took two of three games over the weekend against nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina. The Demon Deacons and Eagles met earlier in the season with Wake Forest claiming a 6-4 win.
Eddie Rohan leads Winthrop with a .375 batting average and has a team-best six home runs and 20 RBIs. John Murrian has hit four home runs and driven in 17 runs on the season. Eddie Tisdale is hitting at a .379 clip with two roundtrippers and 18 RBIs. Greg Houge has made a team-high 12 appearances, all in relief, and has posted a 1-0 record with a 1.86 ERA. Tyler Mizenko is 1-2 on the year, but has a team-best five saves, while compiling a 3.45 ERA. The Eagles are hitting .304 as a team, and the pitching staff has an ERA of 4.61.
