Demon Deacons Complete Final Tune-up For ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Erin Brooks turned a personal-best mark to win the women's long jump as the Wake Forest track & field team competed at the Joe Hilton UNC Invitational at the Belk Track on Saturday.
Brooks took the top spot in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 18-5.75. She also competed in the 100-meter dash and finished 11th overall with a time of 12.49.
Junior Alex Gove turned in a season-best time of 14.39 in the women's 100-meter hurdles to finish fifth in the race. She bested her previous season-best of 14.51, which she ran two weeks ago at the Raleigh Relays.
In the throws, freshman Sarah Brobeck had a season-best mark of 116-08 to take fifth in the javelin. She also finished ninth in the shot put with a mark of 39-01.25 and 11th in the discus with a toss of 114-07.
On the men's side, junior Thomas Sensing finished third in the discus with a season-best toss of 162-03.
Stephan Castilligo led three Demon Deacons in the javelin with a mark 172-08. He finished third while Brent LaRue (168-05) finished fifth and Jason Raggi (158-10) took ninth.
Freshman Justin Bookheimer ran a personal-best 55.31 to finished seventh in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
This was the final tune-up before next weekend's Outdoor ACC Championships in Miami, Fla. The combined event athletes will get the Championships started on Thursday with the rest of the meet starting on Friday.
