GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore Allie Bodemann fired a career-low 3-under 69 to lead the No. 8 Wake Forest women's golf team to a third place finish at the Bryan National Collegiate Sunday afternoon.
Bodemann made three birdies and an eagle in her final round of 69, besting her previous career-low of 2-under 70, which she shot last year at the ACC Championships.
LSU took a commanding 14-shot after the first round and held on over the final two days to take the team title. The Tigers carded rounds of 290-302-295 to beat Virginia by four shots.
Wake Forest finished three shots behind the Cavaliers in third place after rounds of 304-298-292.
Around the turn on Sunday, Wake Forest, who started the day ten shots in back of LSU, had fallen back into fourth place as the Deacs were 5-over for the day. Virginia, who was 2-under for the first nine, had moved into second and East Carolina, who got off to a blazing 7-under through the first nine, moved into third.
Senior Nannette Hill, who came into the final round with the individual lead, made one birdie and bogey in her opening nine and had a three-shot lead through nine.
Sophomore Natalie Sheary had made two birdies and two bogies through her first nine and was also even-par.
Through 12 holes Sheary had moved to 1-under with a birdie on No. 11 and Hill was still at even for the day with a three-shot lead.
Bodemann was even for her round before an eagle at the par-5 15th hole brought her to 2-under.
Hill then bogied No. 14 to fall to 1-over and into a tie with Megan McChrystal of LSU through 15 holes.
McChrystal then birdied No. 16 and made two pars to finish with a round of 3-under 69. Coupled with Hill's 2-over finish on her final three holes, McChrystal took home individual medalist honors. She was the only player to break par for the tournament as she posted rounds of 73-73-69=215 (-1).
In the team race, Wake Forest had gotten to within five strokes of LSU early on in the second nine but thanks to McChrystal's strong finish, the Tigers were able to hold the lead throughout the rest of the round.
Hill finished the tournament tied for second after a round 75 gave her a three-day total of 218.
Sheary moved from a tie for 22nd to start the day, into 11th after a strong final round 1-under 71.
Backed by her final round 69, Bodemann picked up her first top-20 finish of the season, finishing tied for 20th at 227.
Senior Jean Chua and freshman Cheyenne Woods each posted final round 77s to finish tied for 43rd with a three-day total of 231.
Junior Erin Boyle shot a final round 84, which was her lowest round of the tournament.
The Demon Deacons will now set their sights on the ACC Championship, which will be played on April 17-19 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
