No. 7 Miami Defeats Wake Forest 7-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The seventh-ranked Miami women's tennis team defeated Wake Forest 7-0 on Sunday afternoon in Coral Gables. Wake Forest is now 12-8 and 3-5 in the ACC. Miami is 20-3, 9-1.
Miami opened by sweeping the doubles point. Sasha Kulikova and Sierra Poske faced the 15th-ranked duo in the nation at No. 1, falling 8-0. Emilee Malvehy and Aileen Davis also battled a ranked tandem, No. 47 Julia Cohen/Bianca Eichkorn, and dropped an 8-3 decision. Christian Tara and Katarina Reveche stayed with Gabriela Mejia and Claudia Wasilewski at No. 3 but couldn't hang on and lost 8-6.
Miami featured ranked competitors at the top four singles slots. Sasha Kulikova fell 6-3, 6-1 to fourth-ranked Julia Cohen at No.1, Sierra Poske dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 2 to No. 22 Laura Vallverdu and Emilee Malvehy came back to win her second set against No. 51 Michaela Kissell 7-5 after opening with a 6-0 loss. The match had already been decided and the competitors played super tiebreaker for the third set where Kissell took a 10-2 win.
Christian Tara was swept by No. 47 Bianca Eichkorn 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and Ryann Cutillo lost 6-0, 6-1 to Gabriela Mejia at No. 6.
Aileen Davis played in her first conference singles match of the year and was the only Demon Deacon to take a first set win. After topping Claudia Wasilewski 7-5 to open play, she fell 6-1 in the second set and 10-6 in the super tiebreaker.
Wake Forest will return to North Carolina to play at Duke on Wednesday, April 8.
