LONDON - All-American Michael Bingham made a splash in his professional debut on Saturday at the Avian London Grand Prix, winning the 400-meter dash title over a strong field.
The recent graduate ran a personal-best 45.03 to outlast a strong field which included his Olympic teammate Martyn Rooney. This was Bingham's first race since signing a professional contract with Ultimate Performance Sport Management last month.
Bingham will run one more time before joining his Great Britain teammates at the 2009 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Berlin, Germany, on August 15-23.
Bingham's previous-best of 45.05 came at the NCAA East Regionals in May. He went on to finish second in the 400-meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after winning the indoor 400-meter national title.
