BERLIN, Germany - Recent graduate Michael Bingham ran in the fastest heat of the 400m semi-finals at the World Championships on Wednesday and the NCAA Champion turned in a personal-best time of 44.74 to advance to Friday's finals.
Bingham was in the first of three heats in the semi-finals and found himself opposite former Olympic Champion Jeremy Wariner of the United States. With only the top-two spots in each heat and the next two fastest times advancing, Bingham ran the fastest 400-meter race of his career to finish second behind Wariner.
Bingham's previous personal-best was 45.05 which he ran in the finals of the NCAA East Regionals in Greensboro back in May.
What made Bingham's time even better was that he ran it out of lane eight which can be a tough draw for some runners. Hopefully he can repeat that performance because he will once again be running in lane eight in Friday's final, which will start at 3:20 pm EST.
After he finishes the open 400, Bingham will also run one of Great Britain's 4x400-meter relay legs. The semifinals are schedule for Saturday and the finals will be the final event of the meet on Sunday.
Fans can watch the World Track & Field Championships live on NBC's Universal Web Site or live and tape delayed on the Versus TV network.
