WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team will return to action on Monday as it looks to defend its title at the VCU Shootout at the Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va.

Last year, the Deacons got a career-low finish by senior Brendan Gielow to take the team title by 16-shots. Gielow carded a career-low 7-under 64 in the second round on his way to a 54-hole total of 12-under 201. As a team, Wake fired a school-record tying 15-under par in the second round and the 269 total was the lowest 18-hole team score in school history. The Deacs finished the tournament at 27-under par.

Gielow is also back to defend his title this week and he is joined by classmate Travis Wadkins, sophomores Daniel Meggs and Lee Bedford as well as freshman Even Beck. Fellow freshman Charlie Harrison will be playing in his first collegiate tournament as an individual.

Wake comes into this tournament in a need of a good performance after struggling at the Olympia Fields/Illini Invitational. The Deacons will be the highest ranked team in the field at No. 32 according to the latest Golf World/Nike Coaches Poll. This will also be the first look for the Deacs at ACC-foes Maryland, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The first two rounds of the tournament will be played on Monday, beginning with an 8:30 am shotgun start. The third and final round will also start with an 8:30 am shotgun on Tuesday morning. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of all three rounds.
