Deacons Off To Good Start At Topy Cup

TANAGURA, Japan - The Wake Forest women's golf team got the 2009-10 season off to a good start with a round of 2-under 286 in the first round of the 2009 Topy Cup at Tanagura Country Club. The Demon Deacons are tied for the lead with defending national champion Arizona State.
Sophomore Cheyenne Woods led the team with a 2-under 70 and was joined in red figures by freshman Michelle Shin after a 1-under 71. Junior Allie Bodemann carded an even-par 72 and classmate Natalie Sheary came in with a 73. Freshman Stephanie Kim rounded out the Demon Deacon scorers with a 76.
The second round is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9 with the final round set for Thursday.
On Monday, the teams played a practice round and then took part in a long drive competition. Bodemann was the last competitor in the field and the number to beat was 276 yards. She stepped-up and launched her shot 280 yards down the fairway to win the competition.
