WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team will look to continue its strong start to the season on Saturday when they host in-state rival Charlotte. The match will begin at 12 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Center.
Wake Forest is 2-0 on the season, after a pair of 7-0 wins over Elon and Wofford last Saturday. Senior Sasha Kulikova led the Deacons in both the top singles and doubles spots, as she claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win over Elon's Anna Milian and a 6-0, 6-0 win over Wofford's Guinn Garcia. Freshman Kathryn Talbert also displayed an impressive performance by going 2-0 in singles play before teaming up with Kulikova in the top doubles position to earn an 8-2 victory over Wofford. Another Wake Forest freshman, Anna Mydlowska out of Warsaw, Poland, saw her first playing time of the season at the number six singles spot in the match against Wofford, where she claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Saturday's match marks the start of the spring tennis season for Charlotte. The 49ers are led by sophomore Andrea Rivera and freshman Alex Zinn, both of whom competed in the ITA Carolinas Regionals held during the fall in Winston-Salem.
Wake Forest will continue play next weekend when the team travels to Durham, N.C. to take on Virginia Commonwealth in the 2010 ITA Team Indoors Tournament.
