Wake Forest Picked Fifth in ACC Atlantic Division

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wake Forest baseball team was picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division, as announced in the ACC Coaches' Preseason Baseball Poll released on Thursday. The Deacs received a total of 21 points in the poll.
Florida State was the coaches' choice to win the Atlantic Division, receiving 10 first place votes and 70 points overall. Clemson picked up two first place votes and 62 points overall to finish in second. Boston College (42 points) and NC State (38 points) were picked third and fourth. Maryland received 19 points and was picked sixth behind Wake.
2009 ACC Tournament champion Virginia was picked to win the Coastal Division and the ACC overall title. The Cavaliers received 11 first place votes and 71 total points. Georgia Tech was picked to finish second with 57 points, while North Carolina was third with 44 points, including one first place vote. Miami (42 points), Virginia Tech (20 points) and Duke (18 points) rounded out the Coastal Division standings.
Teams were awarded six points for each first-place vote, five points for each second-place vote, etc.
Wake Forest brings back 20 letterwinners from the 2009 team that finished the season with a 22-30 overall record and a 6-24 mark in ACC play. The Deacs also have 10 newcomers on the 2010 roster.
The Demon Deacons officially open spring practice on Friday at 3 p.m. (ET). The season lid-lifter is set for Friday, February 19, at home against 2009 NCAA Tournament participant Army. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. (ET).
