WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Wake Forest men's golf team has finished second in each of its first two events this season and it will look to stay on a roll this week at the NC State Wolfpack Intercollegiate at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, NC. The first two rounds of the 54-hole event will be played on Monday, Oct. 4, and the final round will be on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Individually, the Deacons have been just as good. Junior All-American Lee Bedford won the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate while sophomore Evan Beck finished second at the Carpet Capital and third at the VCU Shootout.

Beck currently leads the team with a 69.8 scoring average. All six of his rounds this year have been at par or better with five of them under-par. He is just the fifth Demon Deacon since 1984 to have a streak of at least seven-straight rounds of par or better.

Bedford has finished in the top-10 in both of the tournaments this year and has been in the top-10 in six of his last nine events dating back to last spring. He is second on the team with a 70.2 scoring average.

Both Beck and Bedford turned in their 54-hole career lows at the Carpet Capital. Bedford won the event at 10-under par while Beck was second at 8-under.

Joining the Beck and Bedford in the lineup this week will be sophomore Charlie Harrison, senior Justin Bryant and freshman John Varol. Junior Daniel Meggs will also be playing this week as an individual.

Harrison has played steady in the first two events. He opened the VCU Shootout with his first career under-par round with a 3-under 69. He ultimately finished the event at 4-over par, which was his 54-hole career-low. Harrison is currently third on the team with a 73.7 scoring average.

Bryant opened the VCU Shootout last week with a round of 72, which his lowest round of the season. He then helped the team two a second-place finish with a final round 73. Varol made his collegiate debut at the VCU Shootout and finished tied for 37th after opening with a pair of 73s.

There are four ACC teams in the field this week. Besides NC State and Wake, Maryland and Duke will also be teeing-it-up. UNC Wilmington will be in the field as well. The Seahawks won the VCU Shootout last week thanks to a 12-under 276 in the second round.

NC State is ranked No. 16 in the latest Golfstat standings while the Deacs jumped from 24th to 18th after their second runner-up finish of the year.

This will be Wake's second look at the newly redesigned Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The team finished 10th last spring at the NC State Spring Intercollegiate. Individually, Bedford finished tied for seventh following a final round 68.

Monday's two rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 8 am, and the Deacons will be paired with Georgia State and Arkansas-Little Rock. The teams will then go off in tee times on Tuesday morning. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-60s for both days with just a slight chance of rain on Monday. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of all three rounds.
