WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior cross country runner Anna Nosenko has been selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships next Monday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Indiana, as announced Sunday evening by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee.
Indiana State University will host the Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. The women's race will begin at approximately 12:08 p.m.
After finishing third overall at the NCAA Southeast Regionals this weekend in Louisville, Ky., Nosenko became eligible to participate in the Championships. Through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process, 38 individuals were selected to compete in the race. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their region.
Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in the Championships. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large.
This marked the third consecutive season that Nosenko has earned All-Region honors. She crossed the finish line of the 6k course in a time of 20:13.7, just 19 seconds behind first place finisher Laura Hoer of N.C. State.
Nosenko has had a strong junior season for the Deacons, finishing first on the team in each of the four races that she has competed in on the year. She claimed the individual title at the Charlotte Invitational back on October 1, and was then named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Performer of the Week during the week of October 3 for her efforts.
Along with Nosenko, Clemson's Kim Ruck, Richmond's Amy Van Alstine, and Western Kentucky's Marion Kandi were selected from the Southeast region to travel to Indiana.
A live webcast of the Championships will be broadcast from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, November 22, on NCAA.com. In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air on Saturday, December 18 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Eastern time on CBS HD.
