
Four Deacons Reach Double-Figures As Wake Forest Rolls Past SC State 95-36

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest sophomore guard Lakevia Boykin scored a career-high 17 points as the Demon Deacons continued to click on offense, downing SC State 95-36 Thursday evening in the Joel Coliseum.
Wake Forest (2-0) has now scored 206 points over its first two games and its pressure defense has forced a total of 68 turnovers. SC State (0-1) kept it close early-on but the Deacs used a 36-5 run throughout most of the first half to break the game open.
Boykin led four Demon Deacons in double-figures with 17 points, four rebounds and three steals. Freshman guard Chelsea Douglas, who led the team in the opener with 18 points, scored 16 points Thursday to go along with her five steals and four assists. Junior Secily Ray also dished out four assists in addition to her 14 points while freshman Erin Hall was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to finish with 11 points.
SC State's Whitney Wiley was the only Bulldog to find the range as she led the team with 17 points. The rest of the team combined for just 19 points.
With the score 10-7 in favor of the Deacs at the 12:53 mark of the first half, a Hall three-pointer sparked a 16-0 Wake Forest run. Hall also capped the run with a layup to put the Deacs ahead 26-7 with 6:51 to play in the half. Ray and senior Brittany Waters also chipped-in with a pair of buckets during the spurt.
Wake closed the half on a 26-10 run and would head to the locker room with a 52-17 advantage. Sophomore Sandra Garcia had nine of the Demon Deacons 31 rebounds in the half, which included 17 offensive boards. Wake also shot an even 50 percent (21-of-42) in the half and forced 14 Bulldog turnovers.
The Deacons kept the hot hand at the start of the second half, opening on a 17-2 run to build a 69-19 lead. Six different Demon Deacons scored during the spurt which was capped by a Douglas steal and layup.
Wake eventually took as much as a 61-point lead with a 1:34 to go at 95-34 and coasted home with the 95-36 victory.
For the game, the Deacons shot 50.7 percent (38-of-75) from the floor and was 8-of-19 from beyond the arc. SC State shot just 22 percent (11-of-49) and was 3-of-11 from long range. Wake also shared the ball well, assisting on 25 of its 38 baskets.
The Deacons will conclude their home stand this Sunday when they host William & Mary at the Joel Coliseum at 2 p.m. Wake will then head to South Bend, Ind., for the Thanksgiving weekend to participate in the WBCA Classic hosted by Notre Dame.
