WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Four Demon Deacons scored in double figures as the Wake Forest women's basketball team defeated William & Mary 82-64 Sunday afternoon at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

Brittany Waters led all scorers with 22 points, while Sandra Garcia tallied 15 points. Secily Ray contributed 12 points to the Deacon scoring total, and sophomore Lakevia Boykin finished with ten.

Center Jaclyn McKenna led the Tribe with 14 points, and Taysha Pye collected a game-high nine rebounds.

After winning the opening tip, Sandra Garcia put the Deacs on the board early, knocking down two free throws just seventeen seconds into the game. Garcia was perfect on her first three field goals, in addition to knocking down three free throws for nine early points.

After maintaining only a one point lead through the first four minutes, the Deacs reeled off a 9-0 run to take a 17-7 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining in the half.

The Tribe rallied back to within eight points, after a three-point basket from Katherine DeHenzel with just over six minutes left to play in the first half.

Ray scored a lay-up as time expired to give the Deacs a 44-33 lead heading into the break. Waters led all scorers at intermission with 11 points, while Ray had 10. The Deacs held a 24-10 advantage in the paint, including 12 points off 10 Tribe turnovers.

The two teams exchanged buckets back and forth at the start of the second half, but the Deacs reeled off four consecutive points in less than a minute to build a ten point cushion at 54-44. Freshman Chelsea Douglas scored off a pull-up jumper from the left elbow and sophomore Lakevia Boykin followed with a fast-break lay-up off a William & Mary turnover on the other end.

Waters knocked down back-to-back three pointers on consecutive possessions off passes from Boykin to put the Deacs in front 60-44. Boykin totaled six assists on the afternoon, tying a career high. Waters' five three point baskets also tied a career high.

Boykin then collected a basket of her own off a fast-break lay-up on the next possession to cap an 8-0 run for Wake Forest.

The Deacs continued to attack, and a quick pair of baskets from freshmen Jaymee Carnes and Lindsy Wright gave the Deacs a 66-47 advantage with 11 minutes to play.

Junior point guard Brooke Thomas tied a career high with seven rebounds on the afternoon, while Garcia and Asia Williams led the Deacs with eight boards apiece. The Deacs finished the game shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line, knocking down 17 of 21 attempts from the charity stripe.

The two teams were even in rebounds with 52 apiece, with the Tribe collecting 25 offensive boards and the Deacs collecting 24.

Wake Forest will next travel to South Bend, Ind., over the Thanksgiving weekend to compete in the WBCA Classic, hosted by Notre Dame. The Deacs will open the weekend against Butler on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
