With his win last Monday at the Bob Hope Classic and his tied for 37th finish at this past weekend's Farmers Insurance Open, Bill Haas currently sits atop the FedEx Cup standings.
Haas made the cut at 3-under par this past weekend at Torrey Pines after opening with rounds of 70-71. A 1-over 73 on Saturday would drop him back to a tie for 45th heading into Sunday's final round. Haas made the turn Sunday at 1-over par and slipped to 2-over after a bogey at the par-4 first. But he would birdie three out of his last four holes to finish the day with a 1-under 71 and tied for 37th.
Webb Simpson took the week off but both he and Haas will be in the field this week at the Northern Trust Open at the famed Riviera Country Club.
The Nationwide Tour opened the season this past week at the Michael Hill New Zealand Open and no former Deacons were in the field. The Tour will continue its southern-swing with a stop at the Moonah Classic in Fingal, Victoria, Australia. The first tournament state-side will be the Chitimacha Louisiana Open on March 25-28, after a couple of stops in Central America.
The Champions Tour will return to action in Naples, Fla., on Feb. 12-14, for The ACE Group Classic.
A note from off the course, Laura Diaz gave birth to a healthy baby girl last Thursday, Jan. 28. According to Coach Dianne Dailey, both mother and daughter are doing well.
