PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The Wake Forest women's golf team carded a final round 305 and finished eighth at the 2010 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Wednesday at the Palos Verdes Country Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.

The Demon Deacons were led by two-time All-American Natalie Sheary and freshman Michelle Shin. Both players finished tied for seventh individually.

Sheary made a total of 15 pars in the final round on her way to a 3-over 74. This was her second top-10 of the year and she has finished inside the top-11 in four of the five events this year.

Shin came into the final round just a couple shots off the lead after firing a career-low 70 on Tuesday, but the Cape Coral, Fla. native wound-up finishing with an 8-over 79 to fall off the pace. Despite the final round, this was Shin's best collegiate finish.

In the team race, Southern California held off Pepperdine by three-shots to take the title. After the top-2, there was a log jam for the next six spots. Six teams were all within three-shots of one-another most of the day. When the dust settled, Wake found itself in eighth place after a final round 305.

Lisa McCloskey of Pepperdine carded a 4-under 67 in round two and rode that momentum to a 3-shot victory over teammate Taylore Karle and Jennifer Song of USC. McCloskey was the only player in the field to finish the 54-hole event under par as she posted a 2-under 211.

Wake Forest sophomore Cheyenne Woods struggled in the first two rounds but rebounded with a solid round on Wednesday. She made three birdies in her round of 2-over 73 and finished the tournament tied for 54th.

Freshman Stephanie Kim finished a shot better than Woods and tied for 51st at 20-over. Senior Dolores White rounded out the Demon Deacon five with a round of 79 on Wednesday to finish tied for 67th.

The Deacons will now have a month off before returning to the course at the Tiger/Wave Classic in New Orleans, La. The 54-hole event begins on March 12.
