Josh Howard was acquired by the Washington Wizards this week, as part of a seven-player deal with the Dallas Mavericks. This is Howard's second NBA team, after being drafted by the Mavs 29th overall in 2003. He played 431 games with Dallas. Along with Howard, Drew Gooden, James Singleton and Quinton Ross went to Washington in exchange for Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson.
It has been a busy week in the NBA with the trade deadline looming on Thursday, in addition to the All-Star Weekend's festivities just a few days ago. The 2010 NBA All-Star Game was played on Sunday, Feb. 14, in Arlington, Texas, at Cowboys Stadium. Former Wake Forest standout Tim Duncan started the game, making his 12th All-Star appearance. He finished the night with four boards, three points and two steals in 13 minutes as the West fell to the East, 141-139.
Before the All-Star break, Duncan netted 16 points at Denver and added seven boards and a block in the Spurs' 111-92 win. His season totals continue to pepper the league-leading ranks. Now sixth in rebounds per 48 minutes with 16, Duncan is seventh in the NBA with 27 double-doubles this season. He also ranks ninth in the NBA in total rebounds per game averaging 10.7. Duncan is in the top-15 list in blocks per game (11th), offensive rebounds (11th), defensive rebounds (11th), points per 48 minutes (12th) and blocks per 48 minutes (15th).
For the Hornets, Darius Songaila helped propel New Orleans to a win in its final game before the break last Wednesday. Songaila knocked down 6-of-10 from the floor for 12 points in a 93-85 win over Boston. Teammate Chris Paul continues rehabilitation after undergoing knee surgery on Feb. 4.
Rookie James Johnson saw more playing time this week for the Chicago Bulls. He played 13 minutes last Wednesday, scoring six points and pulling down two boards in a loss to Orlando. Johnson added three points, a rebound, an assist and one block in eight minutes of play during a Bulls' win at home against the Knicks, 118-85.
For the Atlanta Hawks, Jeff Teague was on the court 13 minutes in a 94-76 loss to Miami last Wednesday. He totaled two points, two boards and a block. Teague currently ranks fifth in the NBA with 2.53 steals per 48 minutes.
