Weekly Recap:
Wake Forest opened the 2010 season by splitting four games against Army and Dayton. The Deacs won the first two games of the season, defeating Army 6-2 in the season opener on Friday and downing Dayton 7-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Wake Forest dropped a 5-2 decision to Army in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader and closed the weekend with a 19-10 loss to Dayton on Sunday.
Wake Forest is 2-2 after the opening weekend of the season.
Redshirt junior Ryan Semeniuk led Wake Forest offensively, hitting .444 on the week with a homer, six RBIs and three runs scored. Semeniuk had a hit in each game, including three multi-hit games on the weekend. The Charlotte, N.C., native tied a career high with three hits and three RBIs on Sunday against Dayton and also hit his third career home run against the Flyers.
Junior Steven Brooks hit .400 during the opening weekend, going 6-for-15 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Brooks has a four-game hitting streak after the first weekend and had two doubles in Wake's win against Dayton on Saturday.
Sophomore Austin Stadler equaled his home run total from 2009 in the opening weekend of the season, hitting .273 with two round-trippers and four RBIs. Stadler leads the team with a .818 slugging percentage after the first four games of the season.
After going 0-for-3 in the season opener, sophomore Shane Kroker went 5-for-10 the rest of the weekend and is hitting .385 with two runs scored after four games. Kroker was 2-for-2 with a double in Sunday's game against Dayton.
Redshirt freshman Mac Williamson hit his first collegiate home run on Saturday against Army. Williamson is hitting .333 with a homer, four RBIs and two runs scored.
On the mound, lefties Austin Stadler and Tim Cooney each turned in quality starts over the weekend. Stadler earned the win in the season opener against Army, throwing six impressive innings, allowing a run on five hits, while striking out seven and walking just one.
Making his collegiate debut, Cooney was equally impressive on Saturday against Dayton, earning the victory after giving up two runs on five hits in 6.1 innings. Cooney struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Mark Adzick, Michael Dimock and Eli Robins each turned in a scoreless appearance out of the bullpen. Adzick threw 1.1 innings on Saturday against Army, allowing two hits, striking out two and walking two batters. Dimock earned his first save of the season against Dayton on Saturday afternoon, throwing a hitless inning with a strikeout and a walk. Robins tossed a hitless inning against Dayton on Sunday and fanned one batter.
Ryan McGrath appeared in two games on the weekend and gave up one runs on two hits in 2.1 innings. McGrath struck out three and walked three batters in his two outings.
Wake Forest returns to action on Tuesday at 4 p.m., hosting 12th-ranked Coastal Carolina at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Deacs will welcome Kent State to Winston-Salem next weekend for a four-game series. Game times are set for 4 p.m. on Friday, 1 and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
