In a busy week for the former Demon Deacons playing in the NBA, Tim Duncan set a new career-high with 27 rebounds in a single game and Chris Paul was named a reserve for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game.
In the top-10 season lists, Duncan ranks seventh overall with 24 double-doubles and seventh in offensive rebounds a game averaging 3.3. He is eighth in total rebounds a game with 10.7 and 10th with 1.81 blocks a game.
On Friday, Duncan recorded 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in a seven-point win over Memphis. On Sunday, he had 16 points and 10 rebounds for his 24th double-double in a loss to Denver.
For the New Orleans Hornets, Paul was announced as a reserve for the 2010 All-Star Game last Thursday. The game will be held on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. (ET) in Dallas. However, an injury suffered to his left knee this week will keep him sidelined indefinitely. Paul suffered a meniscus tear and will undergo surgery tomorrow. The timeframe for his return is uncertain.
The injury came on the heels of a 38-point performance last Wednesday at Golden State, where he shot 14-of-19 from the floor and a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. Paul added nine assists, six rebounds and three steals in the contest. He also tallied 18 points on Friday with 12 helpers before being sidelined.
Josh Howard netted 17 points on Saturday against Portland to go with five rebounds for the Dallas Mavericks. He had seven points and six boards on Phoenix on Sunday. At Utah, Howard grabbed three boards and scored two points on Monday. Dallas continues to lead the Southwest Division with a 30-18 record, two games ahead of the Spurs and four games atop the Hornets.
Darius Songaila was strong for New Orleans coming off the bench this week. He had eight or more points in all of the Hornets games. He dropped in 12 against Chicago on Friday with four rebounds, and scored eight points at Golden State, at Memphis and against Phoenix. Songaila recorded three thefts in Monday's game against the Suns and four rebounds against Golden State.
Jeff Teague saw action in all four Hawks games this week. He played five minutes last night at Oklahoma City, recording two points and a steal. He had a basket at Orlando on Saturday with a rebound in four minutes of action. Teague also combined for three assists, one block and a steal in other action this week. Atlanta (30-17) currently is second in the Southeast Division rankings.
James Johnson played 14 minutes this week for the Chicago Bulls. He scored two points and grabbed a rebound in two minutes on the court against the Clippers on Tuesday. He played seven minutes in a two-point win over New Orleans on Friday and had a rebound, and played five minutes at Oklahoma City last Wednesday. With a 23-23 record, the Bulls are ranked second in the Central Division.
