Thanks to a final round 65, Webb Simpson was able to climb 27 spots on Sunday and finish tied for 15th at the Northern Trust Open at the famed Riviera Country Club this past weekend.
Simpson opened with rounds of 70 and 73 to make the cut at 1-over 143. He then came back with three birdies and an eagle in a round of 2-under 69 on Saturday to move into a tie for 42nd. On Sunday, the 2008 graduate made a total of seven birdies and just one bogey to tie for the lowest round of the day at 6-under 65. This was Simpson's third tournament of the season and it was his third cut made. He is now 64th on the money list with over $138,000 on the year.
Bill Haas was also in the field this past week at Riviera but he shot a 4-over 75 in rainy conditions on Friday and would miss his first cut of the year.
The Tour moves to Pebble Beach this week for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Simpson is the only former Deacon in the field.
The Champions Tour resumes this week at the Ace Group Classic. The tournament is being played at The Quarry in Naples, Fla. Jay Haas, Scott Hoch, Jay Sigel, Curtis Strange and Lanny Wadkins are all in the field.
Current senior Brendan Gielow played in the 2010 Jones Cup this past weekend before joining the team in Jacksonville, Fla. He had a tough first two rounds in less than ideal conditions, posting scores of 81-80. But he bounced-back with a solid 75 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 48th at 20-over par.
