ATHENS, Ga. - The Wake Forest women's golf team carded its lowest round of the weekend, a final round 301 and finished sixth at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
Despite a 6-over 78 on Sunday, sophomore Cheyenne Woods posted her fourth top-10 finish of the season. She finished the 54-hole event, which was played at the University of Georgia Golf Course, at 9-over par and tied for sixth. Woods now leads the team with a 74.1 strokes per round through 21 tournament rounds.
Duke's Lindy Duncan played beautifully all weekend and was only player to break par as she ran away with medalist honors at 3-under par. Duncan won by eight shots over teammate Stacey Kim and Alabama's Jennifer Kirby.
Behind Duncan and Kim, Duke also cruised to the team title, winning by 21-shots over second place Alabama. The Blue Devils increased their 36-hole lead with the lowest round of the tournament on Sunday, a 1-over 289.
For the Deacs, they got off to another rough start with an opening round 316 but rebounded with a 304 on Saturday and a 301 on Sunday to finish sixth in a strong 22-team field at 57-over. Arkansas took third at 48-over while Purdue and Auburn tied for fourth at 51-over.
Wake Forest junior Allie Bodemann made four birdies on Sunday and posted a final round 74 to jump to a tie for 32nd at 16-over par. It was her second-straight solid final round as she also posted an even-par 72 at the Tiger/Wave Classic two weeks ago.
After a tough opening round, freshman Michelle Shin closed with a 77 on Saturday and a solid 74 on Sunday to finish tied for 34th at 17-over. Fellow freshman Stephanie Kim made a pair of birdies on Sunday and posted a 76 to finish at 18-over and tied for 37th.
Junior All-American Natalie Sheary finished-off her week with a 77 on Sunday to tie for 47th.
The Deacons will return to action next weekend as they co-host the Bryan National Collegiate at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, NC. Wake will not be alone in the trip north as eight other teams that were action this weekend in Georgia will join them in the field next weekend.
