CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Robbie Anston went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while John Spatola drove in three runs to lead Boston College to a 12-7 win on a rainy and chilly Sunday afternoon at Commander Shea Field.

With the loss, the Demon Deacons drop to 10-28 on the season and 2-16 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Boston College moves to 19-17 on the year and 9-9 in league play.

BC starter John Leonard (2-0) earned the win on the mound, giving up two runs, only one earned, on four hits over 5.1 innings. Wake starter Justin Van Grouw (1-3) received the loss, allowing six runs, only two of which were earned, on seven hits in 4.0 innings of work. Taylor Lasko earned his first save of the season by giving up a run on two hits in 3.0 innings.

Pat Blair and Matt Conway led the Deacs at the plate with two hits each. Conway also drove in a team-high two RBIs.

Anston continued his hot hitting on the weekend with four more hits and two RBIs. Mickey Wiswall added three hits, including a solo home run, while Spatola drove in a team-high three runs and went 2-for-5.

Wake Forest grabbed an early lead for the first time in the series with a run in the top of the second. With one out, Blair doubled over the head of the left fielder. Blair moved to third on a stolen base. A bad throw by the catcher on the stolen base attempt allowed Blair to come in to score for the first run of the game.

Boston College quickly took the lead from the Deacs with five runs in the bottom of the second. Matt Watson started the inning with a single to left center field and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Anthony Melchionda. A double to left field by Mike Sudol scored Watson from second to tie the game at one. Brad Zapenas reached on a fielding error by Blair with Sudol advancing to third on the play. Garret Smith then hit a ground ball to third. Shane Kroker tried to retire Sudol at the plate, but his throw was in the dirt, allowing Sudol to score on the error and advancing Zapenas to second. Anston cleared the bases with a triple to right field to put Boston College in front 4-1. Matt Hamlet drove home the fifth BC run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right.

The Eagles added another run in the bottom of the third. Spatola started the inning with a triple down the right field line. Watson hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Spatola and make the score 6-1.

Wake Forest responded with a run of its own in the top of the fourth. After the first two batters of the inning were retired, Blair doubled down the left field line. A double to the right-center field gap by Ryan Lloyd scored Blair from second.

Boston College regained a five-run lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Wiswall led off the inning with a single down the right field line. A ground out to third by Spatola moved Wiswall to second. Watson tripled to the gap in right center field to score Wiswall.

Wake Forest got back in the game with four runs in the top of the sixth. With one out, Mac Williamson doubled to the wall in center field. Blair and Lloyd drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Conway hit the first pitch he saw down the left field line, driving in two runs on the double. Kroker hit a deep fly ball to center field to score Lloyd from third for the third Wake Forest run of the inning. Mark Rhine scored Conway from second with a single to right field to cut the Eagle advantage to 7-6.

Boston College got three of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Zapenas doubled to the wall in center field to lead off the inning. Smith moved Zapenas to third with a sacrifice bunt. Anston grounded out to second for the second out of the inning with Zapenas holding at third on the play. The Eagles loaded the bases after Hamlet walked and Wiswall was hit by a pitch. Spatola scored all three runs when he tripled down the right field line to stretch the BC lead to 10-6.

Wake Forest was able to manufacture a run in the top of the seventh. Steven Brooks doubled down the right field line to start the inning. Mike Murray moved Brooks to third with a groundout to short and a sacrifice fly to left-center field scored Brooks for the seventh Wake Forest run of the game.

Boston College responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the seventh. Andrew Lawrence walked to start the inning, but was thrown out at second on a nice throw from Murray on a stolen base attempt. Zapenas reached base with a double to left-center field. Smith hit a fly ball to right-center field that Williamson made an outstanding diving catch on. Zapenas tagged up from second and never stopped running, scoring all the way from second on the sacrifice fly.

The Eagles closed the scoring with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Wiswall led off the inning with his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot just inside the right field foul pole.

Wake Forest returns to action on Tuesday when the Deacs travel to Charlotte for the second meeting this season with the Charlotte 49ers. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. (ET).
