ATHENS, Ga. -- The draws for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships were released on Tuesday with Steven Forman and Tripper Carleton competing in the 64-player singles bracket and the doubles team of Forman and Iain Atkinson playing in the 32-team doubles competition.
Both Demon Deacon singles players will open with Big XII opponents.
Forman, ranked No. 26 in the nation, will play No. 39 Jeff Dadamo of Texas A&M in the first round. Dadamo, a transfer from Florida, has posted an 18-9 record while playing primarily No. 2 singles, while Forman has gone 18-6 while playing mostly at No. 1. The winner of the match will face either Tim Puetz of Auburn, who is in the group of players seeded 9-16, or Binghamton's Sven Vloedgraven in the second round.
48th-ranked Carleton, the first freshman in Wake Forest history to be selected to the NCAA Singles Championships, was drawn against No. 37 Gonzalo Escobar from Texas Tech. Escobar played No. 2 singles for the Red Raiders with a record of 18-5, while Carleton is 13-10 in his rookie season. The winner will face either top-seeded Henrique Cunha of Duke or Pedro Zerbini of California in the next round.
In doubles, Forman and Atkinson will take on 10th-ranked Tim Puetz and Alexander Stamchev of Auburn in the opening round. The winner will play either third-seeded Robert Farah and Steve Johnson of Southern Cal or Remi Boutillier and Rikus de Villiers from Fresno State.
Forman is making his third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships after reaching the quarterfinals in 2008 and 2009 with partner Cory Parr ('09). The Del Mar, Calif. native currently ranks second in Wake Forest history, behind Parr, with 101 career doubles wins.
Forman is competing in singles for the first time, and both Carleton and Atkinson are making their NCAA Individual Championships debuts.
All matches will be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. The singles competition begins on Wednesday with doubles kicking off on Thursday. Competitors will play one round per day, with the finals scheduled for May 31.
