WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest senior Brendan Gielow has been named the King Fisher Society Student-Athlete of the Week.
The award, sponsored by the King Fisher Society, seeks to honor a student-athlete who has excelled both on and off the field as a Demon Deacon.
Gielow is one of four seniors on this year's men's golf team. He leads the team with a 71.8 scoring average and is the only player on the team to have all of his rounds count towards the team score. Fifteen of his 28 tournament rounds this season have been at par or better and he won his second collegiate event earlier this spring at the JU Invitational. The Muskegon, Mich., native was also named to his first All-ACC Team this season.
Off the course, the religion major native has flourished in the classroom. He earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors in 2008 and was a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar in 2009. Gielow was also named to the Academic All-ACC Team in each of his first three seasons and earned the Weaver-James-Corrigan Honorary Award from the ACC this spring.
After graduation later this month, the 2009 Walker Cup member plans to turn professional.
