Billington Places Fifth at World University Championships

VALENCIA, Spain - Wake Forest's Greg Billington led the way for Team USA over the weekend with a top-five finish at the 10th FISU World University Championships in Valencia, Spain.
A 2008 FISU competitior and member of Project 2016, Billington crossed the line in 1:44:33 to take fifth place in the triathlon. Billington helped the U.S. men finish eighth as a team.
Gwen Jorgensen made a strong surge at the end to finish second in one hour, 55 minutes, 26 seconds, just seven seconds behind the female winner.
The women finished in second in the team standings with 27 points, just ahead of Italy (27) and behind a strong Poland team (12), which was led by race winner Agnieszka Jerzyk, who won in 1:55:19.
In her first appearance at an FISU event, Jessica Broderick clocked in at 2:00:06 for a 12th place finish, followed by Lauren Goldstein-Kral in 13th with a time of 2:00:39. Lindsay Woodward was 17th with a time of 2:01:43,and Alex Weber finished in 2:05:33 for 29th place.
The men's field offered up some tough competition for the day. Matt Long finished in 41th place with a time of 1:48:36. 2010 USAT Collegiate National Champion Chris Stehula was the third finisher for Team USA in 1:50:24, which secured him 49th place and Kyle Leto finished just behind him in 1:50:41 for 51st place. Dustin McLarty started the race strong but did not finish.
The U.S. men finished eighth, while France, Spain and Australia took top-three honors in the team standings.
