TUCSON, Ariz. - Wake Forest freshman first baseman Matt Conway has been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team, as chosen by Collegiate Baseball and announced on Wednesday morning.
Conway becomes the first Wake Forest player to be named a freshman All-American since Allan Dykstra earned freshman All-American accolades in 2006.
A native of Birmingham, Mich., Conway posted a team-best .382 batting average in 2010, which was the highest batting average among freshmen in the Atlantic Coast Conference and currently ranks seventh nationally among freshmen. The .382 batting average ranks third among freshmen in Wake Forest history. Conway added six homers and drove in 32 runs during his freshman year. Conway also contributed 18 doubles, which is the most by a freshman in Wake Forest history.
The freshman first baseman was one of the hottest hitters in the country at the end of the regular season. Conway closed the season on an 18-game hitting streak, which is the longest active hitting streak in the ACC, and also had six straight multi-hit games to close the year. Over the last 18 games of the season, Conway hit .462 (36-of-78) with five homers, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He posted an .808 slugging percentage and a .488 on-base percentage over the season-ending hitting streak.
