Conway Plays in NYCBL Future All-Stars Game

GLEN FALLS, N.Y. - Wake Forest freshman All-American first baseman Matt Conway started for the East Futures team in the 2010 New York Collegiate Baseball League Future All-Stars Game, held Monday night.
Conway got the start at first base for the East team and went 0-for-2. The West Futures team claimed a 4-2 win in the game.
A native of Birmingham, Mich., Conway has carried over his strong performance from his rookie season at Wake Forest to his summer league play for the Amsterdam Mohawks. In 24 games, all starts, Conway is hitting .250 with three homers and 24 RBIs. He is tied for second on the team in round-trippers and second in RBIs. Conway has also been stellar in the field, not committing an error in 112 chances. On the mound, Conway has pitched in six games, including one start, and has a 0-1 record with a 3.21 ERA.
Conway finished his freshman season at Wake Forest with a team-best .382 batting average to go along with six homers and 32 RBIs. The freshman All-American finished fourth in the ACC in hitting and in conference games only, Conway was sixth in the league with a .371 batting average. Conway closed the season on an 18-game hitting streak, the longest active hitting streak in the conference. Over his final 18 games, Conway hit .462 (36-of-78) with five homers, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He posted a .808 slugging percentage and a .488 on-base percentage over the season-ending hitting streak. Conway made seven relief appearances on the mound and posted a 1-0 record with a save and a 6.57 ERA.
