WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A total of 21 former Wake Forest men's soccer players are currently playing professionally. Here's an update on how their seasons are going.
Deacs in the MLS
Midfielder Corben Bone has played in two games this season for the Chicago Fire and attempted one shot in his 44 minutes of action.
Midfielder Brian Carroll has started all 16 games this season for the Columbus Crew. Carroll scored his first goal of the 2010 season last weekend in a 2-0 win against New York. Carroll has helped the Crew to a 9-3-4 record, which currently leads the Eastern Conference.
Midfielder Sam Cronin has started three games for San Jose since being traded from Toronto FC. For the 2010 season, Cronin has played in nine games, including starts, with an assist.
Midfielder Austin da Luz has been battling an injury since the start of the season and has yet to play in an MLS match with New York. Da Luz did enter as a substitute and played 45 minutes in New York's U.S. Open Cup match against Harrisburg.
Goalkeeper Will Hesmer has started all 16 games in goal this season for the Columbus Crew. Hesmer has posted a 0.81 goals against average on the year with 51 saves and 13 goals allowed. Hesmer, who has seven clean sheets on the season, has helped the Crew to a 9-3-4 record and first place in the Eastern Conference.
Midfielder Michael Lahoud has played in 11 games, including 10 starts, for Chivas USA. Lahoud has two assists on the season and has attempted five shots for Chivas.
Defender Ike Opara has seen time in nine games, including eight starts, in his rookie season for the San Jose Earthquakes. Opara has scored three goals on the year, including one game-winner.
Defender Pat Phelan has played in 14 games this season for the New England Revolution, with 12 starting appearances. Phelan has one assist and has helped the Revolution to three shutouts on the year.
Defender James Riley has played in 16 games, all starts, for the Seattle Sounders. Riley has two assists on the year for the Sounders and has contributed to five shutouts.
Forward Zack Schilawski has played in all 15 games this season for the New England Revolution, including 12 starts. Schilawski leads the club with five goals, including two game-winning goals.
Forward Scott Sealy has played in six games, including one start, for the San Jose Earthquakes. Sealy has added one assist and attempted one shot for the Earthquakes.
Midfielder Wells Thompson has appeared in 14 games this season for the Colorado Rapids, with six starts. Thompson has attempted seven shots, with three of his attempts being on frame.
Deacs Overseas
Forward Cody Arnoux appeared in seven games, including two starts, with Everton FC's reserve team. Arnoux scored two goals for Everton last season. Arnoux recently completed a trial with Plymouth Argyle.
Defender Michael Parkhurst is currently playing for FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark. Parkhurst played the full 90 minutes in the team's first game of the 2010 season, a 4-1 win over Silkeborg IF.
Forward Marcus Tracy is currently playing for Aalborg in Denmark. Tracy is currently battling an injury and will miss Aalborg's season opener on Monday.
Forward Jeremiah White signed with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia in January 2010. White recently completed a trial with the Chicago Fire.
Deacs in the USL
Goalkeeper Brian Edwards has played in two games this season with the Charlotte Eagles, allowing four goals and making seven saves.
Midfielder Jamie Franks has played in 15 games with the Rochester Rhinos and has two assists on the year.
Defender Stephen Keel has played in 12 games, including 10 starts, this season for the Portland Timbers. Keel has attempted four shots in 921 minutes.
Midfielder Justin Moose has played in 14 games on the year for the Vancouver Whitecaps and recorded one assist. Moose has helped the Whitecaps to a 7-2-8 record and first place in the NASL Conference of USL-1.
Defender Julian Valentin has played in 16 games, including 15 starts, this season for FC Tampa Bay. The captain of FC Tampa Bay, Valentin has scored a goal and attempted seven shots in his 1,354 minutes of play.
