Michael Bingham finishes 2nd at European Championships

BARCELONA, Spain - Michael Bingham turned in a solid performance competing for Great Britain at the 20th European Athletics Championships with a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 45.23.
The former Wake Forest All-American finished just behind Kevin Borlée of Belgium who finished the race in 45.08, his best time of the season. Borlée is a member of the Florida State track & field team.
Bingham turned in two solid races in qualifying in order to earn a spot in the eight-man 400m final.
In Round 1, Bingham turned in the fastest time of the 33 participants by finishing in 45.49.
Bingham earned an automatic spot into the Finals by finishing second in Semifinal 2 in a season-best time of 44.88. His time in the Semifinal round was the fourth fastest among the remaining 24 runners.
Bingham edged countryman Martyn Rooney for the silver medal in the Finals, as Rooney crossed the line in an identical time of 45.23.
