Deacons Conclude Play in UVA Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team wrapped up its first event of the fall season at the UVA Classic, with four singles players and two doubles teams ending the tournament on a winning note.
Sophomore Zach Leslie reached the semifinals of the Blue Singles flight before falling to No. 17 Pedro Zerbini of California. Leslie was awarded third place in the draw by default when his opponent from VCU chose not to play the third-place match.
Junior David Hopkins earned fifth place in the Orange Singles draw, defeating Arnav Jain (Binghamton) and Justin Shane (Virginia) after falling to Virginia's Philippe Oudshoorn in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Danny Kreyman claimed the White Singles consolation title, winning three straight matches against opponents from Davidson, Cornell and Winthrop.
Amogh Prabhakar finished in third place in the Gold Singles consolation, picking up a win over Elon's Philip Meyer. Conner Sherwood earned fourth in the Red Singles draw, defeating ACC foe Akash Gujarati (NC State). Chad Brady reached the finals of the Purple Singles consolation draw before being forced to retire to Eastern Kentucky's Emilio Priz.
The Deacs also found success in doubles. The team of Leslie and Hopkins won finished third in the Orange Doubles flight, defeating the team of Bandres and Varon from ETSU. Kreyman and Sherwood fell 8-4 in the finals of the Black Doubles draw to Elon's Silverman and Rojas. Prabhakar and Brady rounded out the Wake Forest doubles teams, claiming the Green Doubles consolation title with wins over opponents from George Washington and Cornell.
The Deacs will split their squad next weekend to compete in two tournaments. Part of the team will travel to Chicago for the OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational, while the rest of the Deacons will make the drip down Tobacco Road to Durham for the Duke Fab Four Tournament.
