Men's Cross Country Places Fourth in Covered Bridge Open

BOONE, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's cross country team opened the 2010 season with a fourth place overall finish at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone on Friday night. The Deacs tallied a total of 113 points, finishing behind North Carolina (41 points), High Point (75), and Appalachian State (80).
Senior transfer Tom Divinnie was the first Demon Deacon to cross the finish line, as he claimed 8th place with a strong time of 20:04.23 in the 6,400 meter race. Fellow senior Marcus Dillon followed closely behind Divinnie in 10th place, finishing in 20:08.31.
Following Divinnie and Dillon, a strong pack of five Wake Forest runners all finished within twenty five seconds of one another. Junior Paul Loeser turned in one of the top performances of his career, as he crossed the finish line in 20:33.41, good for 25th place. Nate Guthals claimed 31st place with a time of 20:39.01, and Tom Finneran finished ten places later in 41st place and a time of 20:50.22. Tom Morrison (20:54.80) and Jake Graham (20:58.91) were the final two Deacons to remain under the 21 minute mark, finishing in 54th and 56th place, respectively.
Three additional Wake Forest runners helped contribute to the success of the Demon Deacons, including Sam Foster in 65th place, Garret Drogosch in 73rd place, and Devin Huzienga in 80th place.
The Demon Deacons will race again next Saturday in Winston-Salem, as they host the first annual Wake Forest / Duke Dual meet. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m.
