Deacons Enjoy Strong First Day at Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, VA - Wake Forest's men's track and field team turned in a great performance on Friday evening inside the Rector Field House to open the Hokie Invitational.
Junior Alex Hill led the way for the Deacons with a personal best time of 8.72 in the 60m hurdles, breaking his old record by just four-hundredths of a second during the preliminary rounds.
Sophomore Sean Lunkenheimer followed a solid performance in the 500m run last week with a fifth-place showing in the 600m run as Wake's lone participant in the event.
Following is an event-by-event breakdown from the first day of the Hokie Invitational:
60m Dash
Freshman Hiter Harris equaled his time of 7.14 from last week's Virginia Tech Invitational during the preliminary rounds.
60m Hurdles
Hill had the best performance of his career with his run of 8.72 during the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles.
300m Dash
Senior Tyler Dodds, coming off a great performance last weekend, finished second in his heat and 15th overall in the 300m dash with a time of 34.78. The senior broke his old personal record of 34.81 that was set during the 2007 season.
600m Run
Lunkenheimer enjoyed a strong performance in the 600m run, finishing in fifth place with a time of 1:21.02.
1 Mile Run
Senior Marcus Dillon had a great start to his season, finishing second in his heat and ninth overall with a time of 4:15.24. Garret Drogosch was scheduled to run in this event, but was a last-minute scratch by the team.
4x800m Relay
Nate Guthals, Thomas Morrison, Tom Finneran and Anthony Marois powered the 3,200m relay team to a fourth-place finish in 7:44.90 in their first run of the event this season.
Pole Vault
Sophomore Trey Blanton had one of the best performances of the day for the men's team, notching a second-place finish in the pole vaulting competition. His mark of 15-3 (4.65m) gave him his second consecutive top-10 finish.
