The Deacons trailed by only nine at halftime and got as close as four points in the second half, but the Blue Devils put together two long second-half runs to hold on for the victory.
Duke improves to 18-1 (5-1 ACC) while Wake Forest falls to 7-13 (0-5 ACC).
Travis McKie led Wake Forest with 12 points and nine rebounds, and C.J. Harris and Gary Clark chipped in 11 points apiece.
The Blue Devils used a three-pronged attack to earn the victory. Kyle Singler poured in 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Ryan Kelly had a perfect shooting day going 6-of-6 from the field, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc, and 4-4 from the free throw line for a total of 20 points, and Nolan Smith added 19 points. Mason Plumlee led all players with 10 rebounds.
Duke took care of the basketball, only turning the ball over nine times, compared to 17 for Wake Forest. The Blue Devils came up big at the free throw line, converting 22-of-26 attempts, accounting for their final 13 points of the contest. The Deacs went 10-of-14 from the charity stripe.
The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes and were tied at 11-11 going into the first media timeout. Both Duke and Wake Forest used the three-ball early as Harris, McKie and Carson Desrosiers hit from distance for the Deacs, while Singler and Andre Dawkins connected for the Blue Devils.
The Deacons jumped out to an 18-13 lead as Melvin Tabb forced a turnover and McKie converted an old-fashioned three-point play on the ensuing fast break.
Duke responded with a 12-1 run to take a 25-19 lead with 6:33 to go in the opening period. Clark cut the lead to 29-25 with a three-pointer, but the Blue Devils again surged and an old-fashioned three-point play by Smith gave them an 11-point margin at 39-27.
The two sides went back and forth to end the half, and Duke went into the locker room ahead 41-32.
The Deacons came out of the locker inspired and three-pointers from Clark and Harris got Wake Forest within four points at 44-40 at the 17:34 mark. Duke answered right back with a 14-2 run, with the first nine Blue Devil points being scored by Singler, to extend the advantage to 58-42.
J.T. Terrell made back-to-back layups to get the Deacons within 11 points at the midway mark of the period, but Duke rattled off three straight buckets and eight free throws to get the lead to 24 points at 78-52.
Wake Forest will have the week off before hosting Virginia on January 29 at 4 p.m. at Joel Coliseum. The game will be shown on the ACC Network and can also be heard on the Wake Forest Sports Network from IMG College.
