Hill Finishes Fourth in Heptathlon at JRF Combined Events Invite

CLEMSON, S.C. - Juniors Alex Hill and Scott McCullough wrapped up competition in the heptathlon at the JRF Combined Events/Invitational Saturday afternoon at Clemson. Hill finished in fourth place overall, while McCullough placed eighth.
The first four events of the heptathlon were completed on Friday afternoon, including the 60 meter dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump. The remaining three events for Saturday were the 60 meter hurdles, the pole vault, and the 1,000 meter run.
Hill's best showing of the day came in the 1,000 meter run, where he finished third in a time of 2:49.99. He then finished seventh in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.68 seconds, and he finished 12th in the pole vault by clearing a height of 3.40 meters.
McCullough performed very well in the pole vault, placing sixth overall with a mark of 4.00 meters. His time of 3:01.72 in the 1,000 meter run secured him a seventh place finish, and he concluded the day with a time of 9.13 in the 60 meter hurdles to finish in 13th place.
In yesterday's pentathlon competition, freshman Erika Martin placed second overall after five events, while sophomore Maddy Ricco finished in fifth place.
Both the men's and women's track and field squads will return to action next Friday afternoon in Blacksburg, Va. at the Virginia Tech Elite.
