WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest will step out of conference for the last time this season when VCU comes to town on Tuesday night to play at 7 p.m. Admission for all spectators will be free.
So far in non-conference action, the Demon Deacons have posted a 3-6 record. In addition, Wake Forest is 5-7 at home this year.
The matchup with VCU is the beginning of a five-match homestand, which will be the final five matches of the season in Reynolds Gym for the Deacs.
The Demon Deacons and the Rams have a very limited history, as Wake Forest is 6-4 in just 10 contests between the two schools. It has been more than a decade since this matchup occurred. Wake Forest defeated VCU 3-0 in Richmond on October 13, 1998 and has won two straight and three of the last four.
The last time the two schools met in Winston-Salem was on September 17, 1996, when the Deacs outlasted the Rams in five sets.
Wake Forest will be looking to end a five-match losing streak and improve upon its 5-17 overall record. The Demon Deacons last won on October 14 against Maryland in a 3-0 sweep in Reynolds Gym. VCU enters the match with an 11-15 record on the year.
Senior Kadija Fornah has reached the Top 5 in all-time kills at Wake Forest, as she currently has 1,166. She passed Sharon Harmsworth (1996-99) who ended her career with 1,161 and is behind Margaret Davidson (1998-01) for fourth place who left Wake Forest with 1,290 career kills.
Fornah leads the team this season in kills with 269, while fellow senior Carlin Salmon has also eclipsed the 200-kill mark with 203 on the year.
Andrea Beck, who excelled against Clemson on Saturday with 19 kills, is third on the team with 144 kills despite missing the first 10 matches of the season. Beck has also been the most efficient offensive threat, posting a .322 hitting percentage.
Dishing out the majority of the assists has been freshman setter Danae Rosendall who leads the team with 746 (9.56 assists/set). Another freshman, Dani Thompson, is the team leader in digs with 321 on the year.
For VCU, Kristin Boyd gets the majority of the sets and leads the Rams with 344 kills. She also has 131 digs and 58 blocks on the year. Cecilia Aragao runs the offense with 836 assists.
Wake Forest will next host Virginia Tech and Virginia this weekend. The Hokies will be in town on Friday at 7 p.m., while the Cavaliers will visit Reynolds Gym on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Deacs will end the homestand with Florida State and Miami on November 11-12.
