Nunley, Lunkenheimer Pace Deacs on Final Day of Liberty Kickoff

LYNCHBURG, VA. - Booker Nunley finished first in the 60m hurdles and Sean Lunkenheimer placed first in the 1,000-meter run to lead the Deacs on the final day of the Liberty Kickoff at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center.
Senior Alex Hill wrapped up competition in the heptathlon with a third-place finish overall, collecting 4,636 points.
The 4x400-meter relay squad of freshman Daniel Harrison, Malcolm Nunley, Booker Nunley, and Kevin Smith also turned in a strong performance on the day, finishing second overall in 3:23.63.
The Deacs will return to action again on January 13 when they travel to Blacksburg, Va. for the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Following is an event-by-event breakdown of how the rest of the Demon Deacon men's squad fared at the Liberty Kickoff.
Heptathlon
Senior Alex Hill finished third overall with 4,636 points. His time of 8.84 seconds in the 60m hurdles was good for fifth place, while he finished eighth in the pole vault by clearing a height of 11-7.25. In the final event, the 1,000-meter run, Hill placed second in 2:51.57.
60-meter Dash (Prelims)
Booker Nunley finished 24th in 7.20 while sophomore Michael Mastanduno came in at 30th in a time of 7.30.
400m Dash
Malcolm Nunley placed eighth overall in 51.46, and Kevin Smith crossed the finish line in 52.19 to place 11th.
1,000-meter Run
A trio of Deacons finished in the top five, led by Sean Lunkenheimer's first-place finish in 2:32.16. Michael McEnany claimed third place in 2:32.91, and Kyle Eager crossed the finish line in 2:33.56 to take fourth.
60-meter Hurdles
Booker Nunley finished first in the prelims in 8.10, and he would go on to win the event with a time of 8.04 in the finals.
4x400-meter Relay
The Deacs raced two squads on the afternoon, with the "A" team of Daniel Harrison, Booker Nunley, Malcolm Nunley, and Kevin Smith finishing second overall. The "B" squad for Wake Forest claimed fifth place overall, and it included Alex Hill, Sean Lunkenheimer, Kyle Eager, and Michael McEnany.
Long Jump
Michael Mastanduno was the lone Deacon in the long jump, finishing 14th overall with a mark of 21-01.50.
Shot Put
Senior Michael Wooten finished 12th with a throw of 43-10.75, and his brother, Nate, finished 18th with a mark of 39-06.
