WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Anna Nosenko, Allison Homer, and Nicole Irving of the Wake Forest women's cross country team were named to the 2010 All-ACC Academic team, as announced Wednesday afternoon by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Sophomore Garret Drogosch was the only Demon Deacon on the men's squad to receive All-ACC Academic Honors.
To be eligible for the consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average throughout his or her entire academic career.
Nosenko, Homer, and Irving were among 28 student-athletes named to the women's All-ACC Academic team. This marks the first time that any of the three runners has received All-ACC Academic Honors.
Nosenko is pursuing a degree in Political Science, while Homer is majoring in English. A freshman, Irving is currently undeclared on her major.
One of the top cross country runners in Wake Forest history, Nosenko led the Deacs throughout the entire season, as she finished first on the team in four races. She placed first overall at the Charlotte Invitational 5k with a time of 16:38.4.
Nosenko was named to the All-ACC team for the first time in her career after placing third at the 2010 ACC Championships. The Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine native also finished third overall at the NCAA Southeast Regionals to take home All-Region honors, and as a result, she was the only Deacon to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Irving enjoyed one of the most successful freshman campaigns in school history, competing in all six meets for the Deacs and finishing first overall in her collegiate debut at the Covered Bridge Open. She finished in the top three spots for Wake Forest during the entire season, and ran a personal-best 5k time of 17:11.8 at the Charlotte Invitational to place second on the team and fourth overall.
Irving was one of just three Wake Forest freshmen to compete in the 2010 ACC Championships, where she recorded a personal-best 6k time of 21:12.5 to finish second on the team and 27th overall. She was also fourth among 34 freshmen to finish at the ACC Championships.
The Ballston Lake, N.Y. native was the only Demon Deacon freshman to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regionals, placing third on the squad with a 6k time of 21:37.9.
Homer was also a key member of the Wake Forest cross country team during the fall season, as she placed second or third on the team in five meets. The sophomore from Blacksburg, Va. recorded a season-best 5k time of 17:41.7 at the Charlotte Invitational to place third on the team and ninth overall.
Homer competed in the ACC Championships for the second consecutive season, placing third on the team and 39th overall in a personal-best 6k time of 21:33.7. She then finished second on the team and 46th overall at the NCAA Southeast Regionals in a time of 21:36.9.
On the men's side, Garret Drogosch was named to the All-ACC Academic Cross Country team for the first time in his career. A sophomore from Westlake Village, Calif., Drogosch raced in six meets on the season, including a first-place team finish at the Wake Forest/Duke Dual.
His season-best 8k time of 24:51.4 came at the Charlotte Invitational, where he placed third on the team and fifth overall. Drogosch finished fourth on the team at both the ACC Championships and the NCAA Southeast Regionals.
This marks the first time in his career that Drogosch has received All-ACC Academic honors, and he is currently undeclared on a major.
