Wake Forest is set to host five opponents over five consecutive days from February 25-March 1. The Demon Deacons will play Minnesota, Northwestern, Georgetown, West Virginia and UNC Greensboro during that span.
Wake is coming off of its first win of the season, a 2-1, extra-inning victory over Western Carolina on Tuesday. The Deacons trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, a Catamount error allowed sophomore Brett Armour to score the game-tying run. One inning later, sophomore Pat Blair stepped to the plate with bases loaded and two outs and was able to draw a walk to bring home senior Ryan Lloyd for the game-winning run.
Junior LHP Zach White started for the Deacs and put together a solid performance, going 5.1 innings, allowing just one run and striking out six batters. Junior Michael Dimock picked up the victory for Wake Forest by pitching scoreless ninth and tenth innings in relief.
White has now appeared in two games and has posted a 1.42 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched. Opponents are batting .280 and have only recorded one extra-base hit while he's been on the mound.
Wake Forest was able to earn the victory over WCU despite mustering only four hits. Lloyd, sophomore Mac Williamson and freshmen James Harris and Charlie Morgan each had a hit apiece. Williamson and Harris have now both recorded a hit in three consecutive games.
Morgan, Williamson, Harris and sophomore Matt Conway are all tied for the team lead in batting average at .200, as each player is 3-for-15 on the young season.
Conway has driven in four runs for the Deacs, while Morgan is the only other player with multiple RBIs at two.
The Wake Forest bullpen has been a strength through the first four games of the season, allowing just seven earned runs in 16.1 innings of work and holding opponents to a paltry .193 batting average (11-for-57).
Freshman LHP John McLeod has made two appearances in relief and has yet to allow a run in 2.1 IP. He has only given up two hits, allowed no walks and struck out two batters.
