WINSTON-SALEM, NC - After almost a month off, the No. 25 Wake Forest men's golf team will return to action at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Landfall Country Club. The first two rounds are set for Sunday, Feb. 27, with the final round coming on Monday, Feb. 28.
Last year, the Demon Deacons were tied for sixth after the first day and that's where they finished after heavy rain forced the cancellation of the final round. Lee Bedford finished tied for 16th after rounds of 73-75.
Bedford will be joined in the lineup this week by sophomores Evan Beck and Charlie Harrison, freshman John Varol and senior Justin Bryant. Beck carded rounds of 76-74 at Landfall last year while Harrison posted scores of 75-77.
Freshman Beau Cutts will play this week as an individual after shooting rounds of 78-81-75 in the JU Invitational earlier this month.
Beck is leading the team and is second in the ACC in scoring average this season at 71.00 through six events. Fourteen of his 18 rounds have been at par or better and he is the only player on the team to have all of his rounds count towards the team score. Bedford is second on the team with an average of 71.3 and the only Demon Deacon to record a win this year as he won the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic.
Wake Forest is the highest ranked team in the field this week at No. 25. Host UNC Wilmington will be joined by VCU, Old Dominion, Delaware, Towson, Georgia State, North Carolina, Davidson, East Carolina, Liberty and South Carolina.
The weather forecast looks more favorable this year as temperatures are expected in the low 70s with little chance of rain either day. Results will be posted at the end of each round.
