Wake Forest will be in action this weekend when it travels to play nationally-ranked Florida State in Tallahassee for a three-game set. The Demon Deacons will try to put a stop to their current four-game skid, three of which came in ACC action.
Wake most recently dropped a wild, 11-inning contest to Charlotte, 13-10, on Tuesday. The 49ers scored six runs in the top of the 11th, but the Deacs were able to get the potential game-tying run to the plate before coming up just short.
R-sophomore Mac Williamson led the way in the game with four hits (4-for-6) and two runs scored. Senior Steven Brooks also had a productive day at the plate against the Niners, going 2-for-4 with two walks.
Williamson is tied with sophomore Matt Conway for the team lead in batting average. Each player is 22-for-74 on the year (.297), while they also are top two on the team in RBIs (Conway-23; Williamson-15).
Sophomore Tim Cooney is slated to make the start for Wake Forest on Saturday and will look to put together another great start on the mound. Cooney has allowed just seven earned runs in 34.1 innings of work, posting a 1.83 ERA. He also leads the team with 33 strikeouts and has held opponents to a .254 batting average.
Brooks has found his way on base at a more frequent rate than any other Deacon with a .405 on-base percentage. He has 14 hits, 17 walks and three HBPs.
Sophomore Pat Blair has been a solid offensive contributor in Wake Forest's six ACC games this season with a team-best .333 average. He also leads the team with three doubles, seven hits and five walks in conference play.
Junior Michael Dimock and freshman Nate Jones have also been solid in ACC games, as each pitcher has yet to allow an earned run in a combined 12.1 innings of work.
Wake Forest has played well defensively in its six conference games, as the Deacons lead the league with a .987 fielding percentage and have made just three errors.
