4x800m Relay Captures First Place at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - The men's 4x800-meter relay team of Alexander Rose, Nate Guthals, Anthony Marois, and Thomas Morrison finished in first place at the Raleigh Relays Saturday afternoon at N.C. State's Paul Derr Track.
The squad's time of 7:34.54 was exactly one second faster than second-place finisher Pittsburgh (7:35.54).
Two other Deacon relay teams posted top-ten finishes on the day, as the 4x400-meter relay finished in sixth place overall, and the 4x100-meter relay placed tenth.
In the field events, sophomore Ben Lincoln continued his run of strong performances in the javelin throw, as he placed third overall with a mark of 218-5.
The Deacs will return to the track next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Auburn University for the Auburn Tiger Invitational.
Following is an event-by-event breakdown of all the action from Day Two of the Raleigh Relays.
1500m (Section I)
Sophomore Tom Finneran's time of 3:57.15 marked a new personal record in the 1500 for the Scituate, Mass., native, as he placed 11th overall in the first section of the event.
1500m (Section II)
Jake Graham was just one second shy of setting a new personal record, as he crossed the finish line in 4:03.57 to place 22nd in the second section of the 1500-meters.
4x100-Meter Relay
The 4x100-meter relay team of Tyler Dodds, Hiter Harris, Michael Mastanduno, and Malcolm Nunley turned in a time of 42.82 to place tenth overall in the event. The relay marked the collegiate outdoor debut for both Harris and Mastanduno.
4x200-Meter Relay
The squad of Tyler Dodds, Hiter Harris, Michael Mastanduno, and Kevin Smith finished 12th in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:29.92.
4x400-Meter Relay
Tyler Dodds, Allan Lunkenheimer, Sean Lunkenheimer, and Alex Hill finished sixth overall in the 4x400-meter relay, posting a time of 3:14.79.
4x800-Meter Relay
The highlight of the day for the Deacs came in the 4x800-meter relay, where the team of Alexander Rose, Nate Guthals, Anthony Marois, and Thomas Morrison captured first place in an impressive time of 7:34.54.
Rose completed a strong first leg in a time of 1:54.73, and Guthals came on strong in the second leg with a time of 1:52.78 to help keep the Deacs in front. Running the third leg for Wake Forest in 1:56.95 was sophomore Anthony Marois, and junior Thomas Morrison rounded out the relay with a strong finishing leg in a time of 1:50.09.
4x800-Meter Relay `B'
The Deacs entered a second 4x800-meter relay team that placed 12th overall in a time of 7:56.32. Junior Paul Loeser ran the opening leg for the team with a 1:58.38 split before handing the baton off to Michael McEnany for the second leg (2:00.22).
Freshman Kyle Eager posted the fastest split among the four runners in 1:56.96 on the third leg, and sophomore Tom Finneran paced the Deacs on the last leg of the relay with a 2:00.77 split.
Javelin Throw
Ben Lincoln continued his stellar performances in the javelin throw this season by placing third with a throw of 218-5 (66.59 meters). This marked the second consecutive top-three finish in as many weekends for Lincoln, as he finished second in last weekend's Wake Forest Open.
Decathlete Trey Blanton also competed in the javelin throw, finishing with a mark of 158-9 (48.39 meters) to place 12th overall.
