WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest forward Travis McKie has been named to the 2011 CollegeInsider.com Freshman All-America Team.
McKie becomes the third Demon Deacon in the past four seasons to earn Freshman All-America honors, joining James Johnson (2008) and Al-Farouq Aminu (2009).
McKie turned in a stellar rookie season in his first year on campus, leading Wake Forest in both scoring (12.9 points per game) and rebounding (7.6 rpg). He became just the 10th freshman in ACC history to lead his team in both categories.
The 6-7 forward started all 32 of Wake Forest's games this season, tying Tim Duncan for the second-most starts ever by a Deacon freshman.
McKie was named to the ACC All-Freshman team, receiving 74 out of a possible 75 votes. The Richmond, Va. native also earned three ACC Rookie of the Week honors this past season.
McKie led all ACC rookies in rebounding and was second among the rookies in scoring behind only ACC Rookie of the Year Harrison Barnes of North Carolina.
McKie was one of two freshmen, along with Barnes, ranked in the top 20 in the ACC in both scoring and rebounding. McKie ranked in the top 20 in the ACC in three categories: rebounding (6th), defensive rebounds (6th) and scoring (16th).
McKie scored in double figures 24 times this year, including five 20-point performances and seven double-doubles.
