WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest forward Travis McKie has been named to the ACC All-Freshman Team, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association on Monday.
McKie received 74 out of a possible 75 votes to make the All-Freshman Team. North Carolina's Harrison Barnes was the only unanimous selection to the team.
McKie currently leads the Demon Deacons in both scoring (12.9 points per game) and rebounding (7.6 rpg). He is on pace to become just the 10th freshman in ACC history to lead his team in both scoring and rebounding.
The Richmond, Va. native leads all ACC rookies in rebounding, double-doubles (6), double-figure scoring games (23) and times led his team in scoring (13). He ranks second among the rookies in scoring, trailing only UNC's Barnes.
McKie is one of two freshmen, along with Barnes, ranked in the top 20 in the ACC in both scoring and rebounding. McKie ranks in the top 20 in the ACC in four categories: rebounding (6th), defensive rebounds (7th), free throw percentage (10th) and scoring (16th).
A three-time ACC Rookie of the Week, McKie is on pace to tie Tim Duncan for the second-most games started by a Wake Forest freshman (32).
McKie has scored in double figures 23 times this year, including five 20-point performances. He closed the regular season with a career-best 23 points on Sunday at Boston College.
This marks the fourth straight season that Wake Forest has been represented on the ACC All-Freshman Team. McKie is the 11th Deacon to earn the honor since its creation in 1993.
Wake Forest will open the 2011 ACC Tournament on Thursday, March 10, when the No. 12-seeded Demon Deacons take on the No. 5-seeded Boston College Eagles. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum.
