Demon Deacons Dropped 5-2 By Miami

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Iain Atkinson and David Hopkins stayed perfect in doubles this season with a win at the top position, but the Wake Forest men's tennis team ended up dropping the doubles point and could not make up ground in singles, falling 5-2 to No. 28 Miami on Friday at Hanes Park.
The Demon Deacons fall back to .500 at 8-8 (2-4 ACC) while the Hurricanes improve to 10-6 (5-1 ACC).
Wake's 36th-ranked team of Atkinson and Hopkins took down Waylon Chin and Keith Crowley 8-6 to move to 5-0 this season.
Wake Forest got singles wins from its two seniors Jonathan Wolff and Iain Atkinson. No. 63 Wolff won at No. 1 singles for the first time in his career, taking down Christian Blocker 6-3, 6-4. Atkinson's victory came at the No. 3 spot where he cruised by Waylon Chin 6-1, 6-4.
The Hurricanes took wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions to take the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead in the match.
The Canes stayed strong in singles, winning the first set on four courts. After Wolff and Atkinson picked up two points for Wake Forest, the Deacs tried to make it interesting as Danny Kreyman forced a third set at No. 4 and No. 113 Tripper Carleton stayed neck-and-neck in the second set with Crowley at No. 2, but Crowley fought off two break points to successfully serve out a 7-5 set, clinching the match for the Hurricanes.
The Demon Deacons will return to action Sunday when they host Florida State at noon at Hanes Park.
