Clemson Take Series Finale from Deacs, 10-4

CLEMSON, S.C. - Wake Forest got on the board in the top of the first after a two-run homer by Mac Williamson, but Clemson defeated the Demon Deacons 10-4 Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The Tigers claim the series with the victory and improve to 25-14 overall and 11-10 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Wake Forest is now 16-25 overall and 7-14 in the league.
Brett Armour recorded his second straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Williamson, Pat Blair, Matt Conway and James Harris recorded the other four hits for the Demon Deacons.
Williamson picked up a pair of RBIs on his home run, and Steven Brooks and Mark Rhine had an RBI apiece, as they both hit sacrifice flies.
Jonathan Meyer remained perfect on the season and improves to 4-0 with the win for Clemson. Austin Stadler fell to 1-7 after going 4.1 innings and giving up five earned runs.
Niko Spezial and Eli Robins both pitched well in relief, as neither lefty gave up an earned run during their outings.
Things looked good for the Deacs in the top of the first. Blair doubled to left center with one out and Williamson drilled his eighth home run of the season over the left field wall to give Wake Forest and early 2-0 lead.
Clemson with one in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half before taking the lead with two more runs in the bottom of the second. The Tigers would never relinquish the lead.
Wake Forest tied at 3-3 in the top of the fifth before Clemson sent nine men to the plate and scored five runs in the bottom of the inning. Harris began the inning with a single and advanced to second on a single by Armour. Mark Rhine then sacrificed both runners a base with a bunt. Harris came home on a sacrifice fly to right field by Steven Brooks.
Harris scored again in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Rhine, but that was all the runs the Deacons could muster.
Wake Forest will be in action again Tuesday when it travels to play Elon at 7 p.m. The two teams will then play again on Wednesday in Winston-Salem at 6 p.m.
