MURRAY GREASON AWARD
Freshman Travis McKie received the Murray Greason Award, which goes annually to the player who has accomplished outstanding athletic achievement and most impacted his teammates through hard work, determination and season-long effort.
McKie turned in an outstanding debut season for the Demon Deacons, leading the team in both scoring (13.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg). He became the 10th player in ACC history, and the fifth in school history, to accomplish the feat. McKie was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team, receiving 74 out of a possible 75 votes, and was also honored as a Freshman All-American by CollegeInsider.com.
McKie started all 32 games for the Deacons, tying Tim Duncan for the second-most starts ever by a Wake Forest freshman. A three-time ACC Rookie of the Week honoree, McKie ranked sixth in the ACC in rebounding and 16th in scoring this past season.
SKIP PROSSER AWARD
Freshman Carson Desrosiers received the Skip Prosser Award, which was created in 2008 to honor the late Prosser. The award goes to the player who best represents the values and virtues displayed by Coach Prosser, including integrity, character, trustworthiness and an emphasis on academics.
Desrosiers proved to be a steady force in the paint for the Deacons this past season. The 7-0 center started each of the final 19 games of the season and finished ranked sixth in the ACC with 1.7 blocks per game. Desrosiers' 52 total blocks on the year were the second-most ever by a Wake Forest freshman, trailing only Duncan in 1994.
Off the court, Desrosiers earned the school's King Fisher Society Student-Athlete of the Week Award on March 11. The weekly award goes to a student-athlete who excels both athletically and academically.
BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER
Senior Gary Clark received the team's Best Defensive Player award. The 6-4 guard had a breakout season in his final year on campus. Clark led the nation in 3-point shooting, finishing with a school-record 55.3 percent (52-of-94) from beyond the arc. He was third on the team with 10.9 points per game and was second in the ACC in per-game scoring improvement (+7.7) from a season ago. On the defensive end, the team captain Clark led the Deacons in steals with 30 on the year.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
Junior Ty Walker was named the team's Most Improved Player in 2010-11. The 7-0 center played a major role for the Deacons this season after seeing limited playing time during his first two years on campus. Walker ranked second in the ACC and 20th nationally with 2.5 blocks per game. His 79 total blocks ranks sixth on the school's single-season list and were the most by a Deacon since Duncan's senior season in 1997.
Walker broke Duncan's single-game blocks record when he tallied 11 blocked shots against Marist on Nov. 23. Walker played in all 32 games with nine starts, and his best performance may have been in Wake Forest's Jan. 29 win over Virginia. Walker finished with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting to help the Deacons defeat the Cavaliers.
TEAM ASSISTS LEADER
Sophomore C.J. Harris received the Team Assists Leader award after leading the Deacons in assists this past season. The 6-3 guard averaged 3.5 assists per game to rank in a tie for seventh in the ACC. Harris dished out a total of 111 assists on the year.
Harris served as the Deacons' lone point guard for the majority of the season, as freshman Tony Chennault worked his way back from a broken foot. Harris started all 32 games and averaged 32.4 minutes per game to rank eighth in the ACC. The Winston-Salem native dished out a career-high eight assists against Elon on Nov. 20.
BEST REBOUNDER
McKie was named the team's Best Rebounder. The 6-7 forward led the squad and ranked sixth in the ACC with 7.7 rebounds per game. McKie led all ACC freshmen in that category. The Richmond, Va. native pulled down double-figure rebounds in nine games and posted seven double-doubles on the year.
McKie's 247 total rebounds were the fourth-most ever by a Wake Forest freshman, and his rebounding average (7.7) was the sixth-best ever by a Deacon rookie.
BEST FREE THROW SHOOTER
Clark was named the team's Best Free Throw Shooter after leading the team with a career-best 83.3 percent (55-of-66) mark from the charity stripe. He went 6-for-6 at the line on two occasions, vs. Marist on Nov. 23 and at North Carolina on Feb. 15. Clark finished the year by making 14 of his final 15 free throw attempts.
